A person who needs assistance or supervision to ensure the protection of themselves or their assets may be subject to a protective measure.
The protective measure applies to both minors and adults.
The request must come from one of the individuals specifically listed in Article 430 of the Civil Code.
In all cases, the request must be accompanied by a medical certificate from a doctor listed on a register established by the Public Prosecutor.
In certain cases, the placement of adults under conservatorship or guardianship is necessary. In other cases, such a request is not justified, and it may be appropriate to contest the guardianship of a person if it is requested abusively by family members.
When a guardianship or conservatorship measure is ordered, the protected person will be assisted by a guardian or conservator.
